Closet monsters

Whether it's skeletons or monsters in our closets is only determined by our age. Some people have tried to make them cute ans fuzzy but we know their true purpose: it's to scare the living hell out of us regardless of whether we deny them or not - they're there! Ready to jump out any minute, any second or moment we misstep or steer from our so called 'course'. Watching our every step and lurking just behind us in the shadows. The 'course' hanging over us like an umbrella of rightfulness, a guardian of morality and a protector of what's bloody proper. So burned into our sense of social belonging that we forget to think with our heads and do what's right. Psychiatrists will tell us that our modern necrophobia is only caused by our childhood teratophobia which was caused by ... NO “When you can think of yesterday without regret and tomorrow without fear, you are near contentment.” Are you?

A common wisdom says that a happy person lives without regret and a simple person would think it's true. An optimist says that a smart person learns from the mistakes of others but a realist would argue if it's absolute. A cynic asks: "So what does that make you? A happy hypocrite or a regretful idiot?". A few would comment that this is not a rethorical question.
